Ohio's Lost Hopewell Serpent Mound

Ohio's Lost Hopewell Serpent Mound

The serpentine mound is situated on a bluff overlooking the confluence of three springs; much like the famous Serpent mound in Adams county, Ohio.

The size of the Serpent Mound photographed is similar in size to another serpentine mound that was part of the Junction Group located in Ross County, Ohio.  It is believed that the Serpent was symbolic of both the Sun and acted as a consort of the Earth Mother, where it was the protector of the dead.

This burial mound is located within a few feet of the Serpent Mound.  It was excavated and hundreds of skeletons removed. The burial and Serpent mound cab be seen in the winter months.
